Mandate Overview

The mandate

Ecuador operates a mandatory e-invoicing regime managed by the Servicio de Rentas Internas (SRI). Comprobantes Electrónicos became mandatory from August 1, 2014 for large taxpayers, with phased extensions reaching full coverage of all VAT taxpayers by November 2022. Every Comprobante must be digitally signed by the issuer and authorized by SRI through real-time online clearance, or via offline mode with subsequent authorization within 72 hours. The document covers facturas, notas de crédito, retenciones, guías de remisión, and liquidaciones de compra.

FAQ

Common questions

When does Ecuadorian e-invoicing apply to my company?

All Ecuadorian RUC-registered businesses have been required to issue Comprobantes Electrónicos since November 2022, covering B2B, B2C, and B2G transactions. Both private and public sector are universally in scope.

What's the difference between online and offline clearance?

SRI accepts both modes. Online clearance authorizes immediately at submission. Offline mode allows issuance under contingency conditions but the document must reach SRI for authorization within 72 hours, after which it is converted to authorized status.
